Laverne Cox

Laverne Cox ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin, Produzentin und bekannte LGBTQ-Aktivistin. Sie wurde am 29. Mai 1972 in Mobile, Alabama geboren und wurde international berühmt durch ihre Rolle als Sophia Burset in der Netflix-Serie "Orange Is the New Black". Damit war sie die erste offen transgender Schauspielerin, die für einen Primetime Emmy Award in einer Schauspielkategorie nominiert wurde. Neben ihrer Schauspielkarriere ist sie Produzentin mehrerer Dokumentationen, darunter das Emmy-prämierte "Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word" und das vielbeachtete "Disclosure", die das Leben und die Darstellung von Transgender-Personen im Film- und Fernsehen thematisieren. Laverne Cox ist auch eine Pionierin als transgender Frau in der Öffentlichkeit. Sie war die erste offen transgender Person, die auf dem Cover von Magazinen wie TIME, Cosmopolitan und British Vogue erschien und die erste Transfrau mit einer Wachsfigur bei Madame Tussauds.
